Familial Alzheimer's disease

No one should face this diagnosis alone.

Youngtimers is the only nonprofit in the U.S. solely dedicated to those affected by familial Alzheimer's disease. Your gift funds free support, education, and advocacy for people navigating a diagnosis that strikes in the prime of life.

We are volunteer-powered and community-led. Every gift goes straight into programs.

What we work on

A rare, inherited form of Alzheimer's

Familial Alzheimer's disease is caused by a change in a single gene that is passed from parent to child. Anyone who inherits that gene change will go on to develop Alzheimer's, and each child of a parent who carries it has a 50% chance of inheriting it too.

Symptoms usually begin far earlier than most people expect — often in a person's 30s, 40s, or 50s. That timing is what makes this diagnosis so disruptive: it arrives during peak career years, while raising children, and decades before anyone is prepared for it.

  • A diagnosis often lands in the middle of someone's working life.
  • Many people wait years to decide whether to be tested at all.
  • Most clinicians have rarely encountered this condition.
  • What researchers learn here helps everyone facing Alzheimer's.
Who we are

Community-led from the start

Youngtimers was founded in 2021 by people whose lives have been affected by Alzheimer's.

Today we offer community, education, support, and a path into research. Everything is free, and everything is shaped by the people who use it.

Our work also connects people directly with scientists. By helping members understand and join studies, we help move Alzheimer's research forward for everyone.
